NEETs are at a record high – for this time of the year.

The number of 16- to 24-year-olds not in education, work or training in England reached 938,000 – quarterly statistics from the Department for Education show.

This is 43,000 more than the same point the year before and a year-on-year high since records began in 2005. It means 15.6% of all 16- to 24-year-olds in England were NEETs. This compares to just 13.1% in the last three months of 2007.

Within Warwickshire, North Warwickshire has the highest rate of 16-18 ‘NEET Rates’ (as at 13/01/2011)with 7.5% of the Warwickshire total of 5%. (The national government target for ‘NEET Rates’ is 4.4%).
