The DfE’s White Paper; The Importance of Teaching is available to download here!

The White Paper sets out plans in relation to teaching and leadership, behaviour, curriculum, assessment and qualifications, new schools systems, accountability, improvement and funding. Areas covered of particular relevance to the delivery of career learning include:

  • Raising the participation age to 17 by 2013 and 18 by 2015 (4.55)
  • Removal of Children’s Trust duties and requirement for a Children and Young People’s Plan (2.50)
  • Removal of expectations for a SEF (2.53)
  • Reduced statutory duties and requirements on schools (2.49 and 2.58)
  • NEET (4.5)
  • Need for high quality PSHE (4.30)
  • Support for Modern Foreign Languages (4.23)
  • Continued support for Science and Maths (4.25)
  • Commitment to Apprenticeships (4.53)
  • Local authorities as Champions of Excellence (5.38)
  • Common performance measures re 16-19 education and training (6.9)
  • New Education Funding Agency within DfE to replace YPLA (8.13)
